Safety Sensor Alignment

Photo eye brackets are thin and bend easily, so alignment is the most common sensor fault after simple obstruction.

Each unit carries two lights. One shows power, the other shows that the receiver can see the transmitter. Work on the unit whose alignment light is dim, flickering or out.

Loosen the wing nut just enough to move the sensor by hand. Move it slowly, in small increments, watching the light rather than the sensor. When it goes steady, hold it there and retighten without nudging it, which is the step most people lose the alignment on.

Confirm the fix by closing the door fully and watching it complete the travel, not by trusting the light alone. A marginal beam can hold steady at rest and drop out under the vibration of a moving door.

If alignment will not hold, look at the bracket rather than the sensor. A bracket that has been knocked repeatedly develops a bend that lets the unit drift back out of true within days.
