What to Expect on an Emergency Callout

Emergency work splits into two questions: can the door be made safe now, and can it be repaired now. They have different answers more often than people expect.

Broken springs, snapped cables and doors off their tracks are the common after hours calls, and all three leave a door that is unsafe to operate rather than merely inconvenient.

Springs and cables are usually same day, because they are stock parts and the work is bounded. Sizing has to be right, so the more detail given on the phone the better the chance the correct parts are on the van.

Panels and full door replacements are almost never same day. Sections are ordered to colour and model, and anything discontinued may not be available at all.

When the repair cannot be completed immediately, the door is secured in a safe position rather than left partly open. A door jammed at height with a failed spring is a hazard, and making it safe is a legitimate outcome for an emergency visit even when nothing is fixed.

Expect the diagnosis to come before the price, even out of hours. A number quoted before anyone has looked is still a guess at midnight.
